How to prepare for & receive massage.
We truly believe in & value the healing powers of massage. We have created a safe, nurturing space for our clients to be able to come to and reap the benefits of massage. There are a few things that you can do to get the most out of your massage session with us.
Come in calm & relaxed & ON TIME. Don’t overload your day with multiple tasks. This stresses your nervous system & it will take you longer to relax.
Don’t skip a meal but don’t eat a heavy, greasy meal prior to your session. Your blood sugar could be affected if you don’t eat & a heavy meal is just going to make you uncomfortable on the table.
Come in without grand expectations, be in the present moment & be open to receiving the work. Practice shutting your mind down. You will get better & better at this the more you practice.
Always undress down to your comfort level.
Don’t carry on a conversation on the table. If you are talking, you are engaging muscles, not allowing muscles to relax. When your muscles are contracted it makes massage counterproductive. You are usually not in the present moment if you are telling a story. We also have other guests in the studio & it can take away from their experience as well as your own.
Always be honest about your health conditions & update your information when needed.
Know that you can communicate w/ your therapist at all times, whether it be about a health condition, the amount of pressure being used, if you are uncomfortable on the table in any way, etc. Trust us, we want to know so we can help put you at ease.
Drink plenty of water BEFORE and AFTER your session.
Massage is most beneficial when received over time. The more massage you receive, the more your body will learn to relax, release chronic tension patterns & realign itself. If you have an injury or have chronic tension, please know that multiple massage sessions will be needed. Your body will only release so much in a session.
Self care is SUPER IMPORTANT to maintain the results of your massage. Daily stretching, maintaining a healthy weight, hydration, strengthening of muscles is all needed or the same work will just have to be repeated over and over again in the following massage sessions. All of our therapists like to see growth & forward movement. You have to put in the work each day to receive the most out of your visit with us. We know weight can be a touchy subject & we do not pass judgement but from our professional stand point, we know that extra weight can increase pain on joints & also eventually cause damage. On the other hand, malnourishment can also affect pain in your soft tissues & joints. We encourage our clients to be well balanced & healthy. Massage is a great way to get in touch with your body & learn to love, respect & take care of it. Massage should be the reward for doing just that!!!
